Sprawling across the western foothills of the Pocono Mountains is Hickory Run State Park, a massive park totaling nearly 16,000 acres and over 40 miles of hiking trails. Learn more details below about what makes a trip to Hickory Run State Park worthwhile during your time in the Poconos!
Within its vast boundaries, Hickory Run State Park encompasses upwards of 40 miles of hiking trails, miles of trout streams, and three state park natural areas. One of the park’s most famous landmarks is Boulder Field, a region of the park strewn with boulders in a striking natural arrangement that earned its place as a National Natural Landmark. Hickory Run Boulder Field is the largest of its kind in the Appalachian region.
There are a number of iconic spots to visit in the park even beyond Boulder Field (though you’ll still want to walk across its unusual grounds). Hawk Falls and Sand Spring Lake offer a cooling respite during the warm summer months. Trails like Shades of Death and Fireline provide sweeping views of other landmarks, such as Stametz Dam and Lehigh Gorge, as well as views of lakes, waterfalls, and rhododendron bushes that bloom from mid-June through mid-July.
Other popular activities that visitors enjoy in Hickory Run State Park include warm weather recreation like fishing in Mud Run or Hickory Run, swimming in Sand Spring Lake, or playing disc golf in the Sand Spring Day-Use Area. In the winter, Sand Spring Trail is renowned for its cross-country skiing conditions.
Hickory Run State Park, like most Pennsylvania state parks, is open all year long, from sunrise until sunset, though certain portions of the park are seasonal, such as beach areas. Day-use areas are closed off at dusk.
This state park is located at 3613 State Road 534, White Haven, PA 18661. For additional information on the park, call (570) 443-0400, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or speak with one of our representatives at Pocono Mountain Rentals.
