Greene Dreher Sterling Fair is a colorful event filled with games, music, rides, food, exhibits, contests, and much more. The GDS fairgrounds are located at 457 Crestmont Drive, Newfoundland, PA 18445. Parking is free but you’ll need to buy a ticket. Ticket prices vary. Weekends, it costs $8 per person, while weekdays it’s only $6. You can buy multi-day tickets which will be cheaper than single-day admissions. Special events inside, such as rides, would charge extra. The fair this year is held between August 23, 2019, and September 1, 2019. Whether you plan on spending one day at this Pocono fair or you’ll be visiting a few times, there are a lot of activities and attractions to keep you entertained.
Even though this is a farmer’s fair, the contests that span the whole week cover various fields, some of which have little to do with farming. Artsy contests like the decorated bowling pin, require pre-registration, and involve showing your creative side decorating a bowling pin. There’s also an essay contest, a frog jumping competition, kid’s pedal pull, pie eating contest, and a fair queen pageant. Animals too have their fair share of contests to show their prowess. Besides the frog hopping contest, dogs get to strut their stuff in the dog exhibition. It’s definitely one of the best fairs in PA.
As far as fairs go, Greene Dreher Sterling Fair takes the cake in the amount of entertainment they have lined up this year. Circus Una Show will perform in the arena on the first two days, while mentalist Eli Moran will dazzle the audience with some mystery and magical powers. The entertainment tent features some great acts by The Big Tiny Young, George Gilbert, Richard Barker among many others. Everyone gets to have fun, including children.
Besides the entertainment and contests, the Greene Dreher Sterling Fair also hosts two special events. The first is a flea market. There are three flea markets throughout the year. The spring flea market is held in May, the summer flea market in July, and the fall flea market in October. Depending on the weather the flea market might be held indoors in case of rain or unpleasant weather. Otherwise, it is usually held outdoors on the fairgrounds. The other special event is the craft show. Both events welcome vendors, farmers, antique dealers, crafters, and yard sale sellers. If you want to take part in either one to sell something, you’d need to register beforehand using a form on the website. Each space costs $25.
