As winter fades into the distance and the first blooms of spring begin to appear, the Pocono Mountains transform into a haven of rejuvenation and outdoor adventure. After being cooped up all winter, spring invites us to step outside and enjoy nature. A Poconos getaway is the perfect way to do just that. Pack some comfortable walking shoes and plan a trip to Bushkill Falls, The Niagara of Pennsylvania. There are eight incredible waterfalls and   spectacular views of them from the trails. Like Bird watching?  See how many different bird species you can count along the trails.  Maybe you feel like fishing? Kick back along the shore of Twin Lakes and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.  If you’re feeling adventurous, you can find a great whitewater rafting experience! Hickory Run State Park is another great option for outdoor fun, and is nearby as well.  Or you can delve into the heart of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, where trails like the Hornbecks Creek Trail provide a challenging yet rewarding hike. And don’t miss Dingmans Falls, one of the area’s most-photographed locations!

Spring also brings some special events and festivals that are perfect to plan a Spring Break around.  The annual Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival takes place April 18-21, 2024 in the quaint, small town of Jim Thorpe, PA.  Live music and over 90 world class independent films of every type will be showcased.  Another favorite is the annual Great Pocono Airshow in late May of every year.  You’ll see amazing stunts and aerial performances, as well as hundreds of amazing aircraft.

For those who find peace by the water, the Poconos are a haven for fishing enthusiasts. The region is dotted with lakes, rivers, and streams teeming with a variety of fish. And spring is the perfect time to wet a line and catch that lunker.  Opening day of trout season is April 6, 2024 and a Statewide Mentored Youth Trout Day on March 30, 2024.  Fish-for-Free Days are Memorial Day, May 27, 2024 and July 4, 2024. For those who prefer horseback riding or ATV’ing, the Poconos have plenty of options. For horseback riding, Daisy Field Farm and Deer Path Stables are both near the Lake Harmony area and offer guided trail rides through the beautiful woods of the Poconos.
