Why Visit During Fall in the Poconos?

Thinning Crowds

While summer and winter attract a large number of crowds for the amazing outdoor opportunities, fall offers a more tranquil experience with less crowds. This means you can enjoy the attractions, trails, and restaurants without the long lines and crowded spaces. Connect with nature this fall and experience the tranquility of the Poconos without so many around.

Poconos Fall Foliage

Fall is leaf-peeping season! There is no shortage of Poconos fall foliage to be amazed by. As the leaves change color, the mountains are adorned with a shimmering array of reds, oranges, and yellows. As you take a scenic drive, stop at the overlooks for prime viewing opportunities. Hikes are a great way to immerse yourself in the golden fall foliage also. As you hear the leaves crunch beneath your feet, and the cool breezes carry you along, you’ll understand why fall in the Poconos is always a good idea.

Perfect Weather

Speaking of cool breezes, fall in the Poconos brings cooler temperatures that are perfect for outdoor activities. The days are pleasant, ideal for hiking, biking, and exploring, while the evenings are cool enough to enjoy time by the firepit as you sip a hot drink. Visiting during this time, you’ll be past the balmy heat of summer, and before the frigid winter temps. Fall is the sweet spot for the best weather in the Poconos.

Abundant Wildlife

If you love observing wildlife, then fall in the Pocono Mountains is prime wildlife viewing time. Deer, turkeys, and various bird species are more active during this time—and so are the black bears. Be mindful of their activity when you go on hikes and spend any time in the woods. They’ll be hibernating soon, so just keep an eye out!

Natural Adventure Around the Poconos

Bushkill Falls

Visit the “Niagara of Pennsylvania,” at Bushkill Falls! It’s a series of eight waterfalls nestled in the Pocono Mountains. In the fall, the trails are surrounded by vibrant foliage, creating a beautiful setting for a day of exploration in the forest. The main falls, with their dramatic drop and autumn colors, are a sight you won’t forget.

Big Pocono State Park

For panoramic views of the Pocono Mountains, Big Pocono State Park is the place to visit. Many of the hiking trails lead to the summit of Camelback Mountain, where you can enjoy stunning views of the valley below. The fall foliage enhances the beauty of these views, making it a perfect spot to relax, have a picnic lunch and take some pictures.

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

The Delaware Water Gap National spans over 70,000 acres and offers stunning views of the Delaware River, thick forests, and cascading waterfalls! Are you looking for a romantic getaway destination for Valentine’s Day? Come to beautiful Lake Harmony in the Pocono Mountains! Read on to see how to plan a romantic escape filled with fun Valentine’s Day Lake Harmony activities and events.

Visit Blakeslee

One of the top romantic activities for you and your partner to do during a Valentine’s Day weekend in Lake Harmony is to go to the charming and small mountain town of Blakeslee. This incredible mountain town is located right in the heart of the Pocono Mountains, providing you with a quiet and serene afternoon away from the hustle and bustle of city and ski-town life.

We recommend visiting the 130-acre Blakeslee Natural area to go hiking, nature walking, or bird hatching in the lush green pine forest. This is a great way to get out in nature, see the local flora and fauna, and do so without breaking a sweat.

We also recommend going to the similar Thomas Darling Preserve to wander around the breathtaking 2,500-acre reserve, featuring miles and miles of tracks, protected areas, towering trees, and lush greenery. Make sure you bring your camera to take a few pictures of the spruce forests, Burger Road walkway, and birds chirping in the trees.

Check Out Tobyhanna

Another great little town to check out during your stay in Lake Harmony is the Tobyhanna shopping, hiking, and town area. This cute spot is great for going hiking for hours on end, eating an al fresco healthy lunch with your date, and choosing a few drinks and bites to purchase at the nearby cafe to eat in the bright winter sunshine.

Grab Dinner at Bar Louie at the Hotel Fauchere

There is nowhere better to have specialty cocktails, check out a new town, and chat with the knowledgeable staff than the Hotel FAuchere. This upscale dining establishment is currently open for dinner service until 9 pm most days of the week, so you can head here any day leading up to V-Day for a tasty meal and upscale vibes.

Not sure what to order? Try ordering from the Modern French menu specialty made by the chef, Luis Fauchere, who uses seasonal cuisine, local ingredients, and modern twists on the typical French dishes you see in European restaurants.

Start with the delectable French Onion Soup with caramelized onion and apples. Then, share the Escargot Provencal with mushroom bread dumplings, confit tomatoes, and Persillade compose. Or, if you want another type of seafood, you can’t go wrong with splitting the Sushi Pizza with tuna crudo, corps sushi rice, and Thai basil.

As a main dish, the choices are so tough to narrow down and choose your favorite. For seafood lovers, the Lobster Fauchere with English Peas, pearl onions, black veneer rice, and carrot crisp is to die for. And for meat lovers, the Cedar Farms Prime Strip Steak with young vegetables, Dauphinoise potatoes, and bone marrow is a melt-in-your-mouth creation.

Visit the Tranquil Moments of the Poconos

Are you feeling a bit sore and tight after going skiing all day yesterday? Maybe it was your first day sleeping this ski season, so your legs are screaming, and your back is tired. In this case, a message seems like the best way to recover and hit the slopes again tomorrow on a sunny and brisk winter day.

For couples who want to be healthy and wholesome together, we can’t think of anything better than visiting a massage therapist to get a couple’s massage and a facial. Check out the Tranquil Moments of the Poconos in Blakeslee to work out any knots and get back to your best in just one session.

We recommend getting the Pumpkin Pamper Package if you have it here in the fall season, including a Swedish massage with pumpkin spice massage oil, foot scrub, and Moroccan oil hair treatment. They even use hot stones to get deeper into your muscles for additional relaxation. Or, try the full body red wine body scrub treatment with mylar body wrap to exfoliate your skin and get rid of dry particles.

Check Out the Local Art Scene

There is so much art and culture in the little town of Lake Harmony that we aren’t surprised you want to visit an art gallery or two during your stay here. The Morgan Gallery of Fine Arts in Blakeslee is a small, independently run gallery that offers pristine paintings, sculptures, and much more that are great for last-minute gifts.

Or head to Red Run art gallery in Pocono Pines to see some unique artistic pieces and chat with the owner and artists themselves. We also think you should make time for the Patiri Art Image Designers in Pocono Lake to pick up some last-minute gifts and see the talents of local artists and sculptors.

Not sure what to do during your weekend in the Poconos? Check out this itinerary for this bustling holiday!

4th of July Fireworks

There is no better way to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend than watching fireworks high in the sky!  Head to Lake Harmony this holiday weekend to enjoy celebrations with locals and tourists, yummy barbecued food, picnics in the green grass, and live music around the lake. There are events all weekend long, so you will never be bored during your fun-filled vacation here in this bustling mountain town.

Go for a Morning Walk Before the Celebrations

The best way to start the morning is to go for a nice walk among the beautiful high peaks! You can feel good about yourself later as you enjoy a few hot dogs and pints of beer if you exercised that morning, so get in your 10K steps nice and early in the day! We love the pristine nature around this area in Lake Harmony, offering easy trails, moderate paths, and lung-busting high hikes.

One of the best trails in Lake Harmony is the Boulder Field at Hickory Run State Park. This popular spot is a huge hit among locals and tourists alike for the scrambling and fun trail that you can go on with people of all ages! We love bringing our kids here to play on the rocks and feel like they are scaling a mountain when they are just scrambling on a boulder field in the middle of this 400-foot-wide area. Plus, this is a historical area that was shaped by the last ice age — talk about interesting!

Another cool trail to check out during your stay in Lake Harmony is Hawk Falls in the same park. You can easily spend an entire day in Hickory Run! For a longer hike, try this waterfall hike that is 0.68 miles round trip — the perfect trail for a quick morning run or an easy walk with older adults. We recommend heading up to the outcrop at the top of the waterfall to take great photos at this vantage point.

Interested in something a bit tougher? The Shades of Death Trail is not as daunting as it sounds, but it still offers a 1.89-mile hike and 233-foot gain, which is getting a little more challenging for the beginner hiker. We love the beautiful scenery and ever-changing trees and fauna.

Lastly, expert hikers, trail runners, or backpackers will love the Pinchot Trail! This well-maintained trail in Wilkes Barre, PA, offers nearly 22 miles of trails, dirt paths, beautiful trees, and different looped sections that provide you with more versatility.

Head Out to the Lake

We recommend going out on the aptly named Lake Harmony to do some watersports! Lake Harmony Watersports is a business that offers the perfect amount of professional advice and rental equipment that gives you an adrenaline-filled afternoon in the safest way possible.

Use this reputable company to book water sports tours in the heart of the Poconos. You can choose from wakeboarding, tubing, wake surfing, kneeboarding, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, and water skiing. The professionals here make sure that people of all ages and fitness levels are safe the entire time!

Plus, this company is open 7 days a week in the summer season, making it the ideal place to check out for the upcoming holiday weekend.

Grab a Beer!

After a long holiday weekend of hiking and hitting the waves, it might be time to kick back and relax for the fourth of July. We don’t blame you. Luckily for you, there are tons of bars and breweries in the area that provide outdoor seating, cold pints, and good vibes.

We love going to Shenanigans on Lake Harmony Road. This old school and mountain house cabin offers pub grub, dancing, live music, and cheap drinks that will have you coming back every single evening!

Another cool spot for a great drink is Piggy’s on Lakeshore Drive, a bustling and vibrant spot for breakfast and lunch dishes that also offers cocktails, beer, and wine. This classic American breakfast joint is casual and laid-back, making it the ideal spot to grab a cup of coffee in the morning or for an ice-cold beer later in the day.

Lastly, NIck’s Lake House Restaurant is a more upscale eatery that offers unbeatable views right next to Lake Harmony! Head here to grab a specialty cocktail from their full bar. We recommend trying the Pomegranate cocktail with vanilla vodka and pomegranate juice or the Triple Chocolate Martini with chocolate vodka, Godiva Chocolate Liqueur, white creme de cacao, and chocolate rum. Yum!

If this sounds like the ideal holiday weekend, reach out today and check out our Pocono rentals to book a spacious and comfortable home for you and your family or friends.

There are so many things to do in the Poconos all year round! This bustling and vibrant natural area is home to water sports, cultural attractions, winter activities, wildlife watching, ethnic eateries, craft beer breweries, and much more!

Let’s check out the top things to do this Memorial Day weekend in the Poconos and fun annual events you and your entire family can attend! We guarantee you will never run out of things to do or places to see during your relaxing stay here.

Whitewater Rafting

On Friday of MDW, we think that going white water rafting is a great way to kick off the weekend on a fun and exciting note! We recommend using Whitewater Rafting Adventures, Pocono Whitewater Adventures, or Adventure Center at Whitewater Challengers to teach you how to paddle, take you to the best tours, and be with you every step of the way so you always feel safe.

The weather is usually ideal for whitewater rafting this weekend, so it really is the ideal time to spend time in the bright blue water and bond with your family members.

Plus, some of these adventure companies offer more activities for you to do during your time here! Test your luck at biking on one of the mountain bike trails, have some friendly competition with a paintball game at Skirmish Paintball, and test your head for heights on one of the many zipline courses.

Catch a Few Fish

Memorial Day weekend is one of the best times for you to test your luck at catching fish in one of the many lakes and ponds surrounding the Poconos. This weekend offers FREE fishing for all residents and visitors in the Poconos mountains!

Usually, you will need a license and permit to fish here, but this weekend is one of the only days during the entire fishing season when you do not need a license — so it is the perfect time to spend a day out on the ballot or the dock.

If you have never fished before, we recommend using Captain Joe’s Fishing Waterman Services or Rubber Duckie Boat Rentals to try and catch a few fresh fish to make your vacation memorable and exciting.

Head Out on the Mountain Trails

Another fun thing to do during Memorial Day Weekend is to go out on one of the many hiking trails! It doesn’t matter if you are a complete newbie when it comes to breaking into your hiking shoes and going on nature trails or if you are an avid hiker who wants to get to the top of the tallest nearby peaks — there is something for everyone in the sprawling Poconos Mountains.

Some of the best hiking trails to check out for a sunny half-day or full-day excursion is Lock 31 Canal Trail, Bushkill Falls Trail, Promised Land Boundary Trail, The Appalachian Trail, Lehigh Gorge, and Ricketts Glen Falls Trail Loop.

Eat at a Fancy Restaurant

There are numerous high-end and fine-dining restaurants to choose from when it comes to celebrating Memorial Day weekend with your family or friends. We love going to French Manor Inn or The Settlers Inn to have extravagant and organic food that is sure to make your palette extremely happy.

At French Manor Inn, we recommend getting one of the mouth-watering appetizers to share with the table. Try the beef negimaki with shaved teriyaki marinated flank steak, green onion, and green onion soubise. Or try the duck confit tostada with chili spices, crispy tortillas, spring mix, cheesy refried beans, and roasted corn.

As a main dish, you can’t go wrong with the petite filet mignon with pickled vegetables, arugula, gouda polenta fry, shaved asiago cheese, house caesar aioli, and egg yolk. Another crowd favorite is the coconut curry mussels with snow peas, miso, marinated udon noodles, and light coconut basil broth.

If you go to The Settlers Inn for a fancy holiday dinner, we recommend getting the chicken liver mousse with garlic focaccia and pickled vegetables as a starter. Then, try the pan-seared blooming grove trout over black rice with parsley veloute as a main dish. If you would rather have a smoky meat dish, we love the hand-rolled crispy porchetta with spring garlic pesto and pea risotto.

Vacation should be a time for extravagance and fun! That is why we think that spending your time and energy at high-end restaurants that use fresh ingredients, locally sourced food, and provide an immaculate ambiance is essential to having the best holiday of your entire year.
