Not every home offers the same amenities, but all contain that certain something extra that makes a guest feel treasured.

Rainy Day Activities

Although the weather in spring is mild and sunny, the spring showers that bring summer flowers may have you looking for things to do indoors. Explore the history of the area with a visit to the Old Jail Museum, located at 128 W Broadway in nearby Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. Our state is one of the original 13 colonies, and as heroic as our ancestors were, the new world was a rough place and the need for a strong jail in the area was urgent. Built in the 1800s, the handprint of the falsely accused Thomas Fisher, left as a protest to his innocence, is still visible today, adding a fascinating touch to your explorations of the past.

Road Trips Are Fun

If you have a rental car, the one thing you must do during your stay in the Poconos is take a road trip; there are so many interesting towns to visit and places to see in the area, you’ll feel disappointed if you don’t dedicate at least one day of your stay for a road trip!

Pack some snacks, fill up the tank, and head towards the historic town of Tunkhannock. The name may be a bit difficult to pronounce but the sights will make you forget all about the tongue twister! The Nimble Hill Winery and Brewery, located at 3971 US-6 in Tunkhannock, is one of our favorite road trip destinations. Many of our spouses prefer to drink only wine, while others prefer beer, and this exciting business offers a tasty selection of both! This company boasts humble beginnings—they started out making beer and wine in their garage—and the family atmosphere makes Nimble Hill a welcoming place to watch the sunset and enjoy a refreshing beverage. The choices are extensive and delicious!

For those who wanted to stay outdoors, Tunkhannock is home to the lovely Lake Winola, a glacial lake that stretches out over 185 acres. The promise of spring shines in the budding trees and beautiful flowers pushing up out of the dark rich soil that surrounds the lake. Take a walk to the shoreline and spend some quiet time skipping pebbles across its smooth surface as you discuss the finer points of rock skipping with your younger children. In the spring the water is still too cool to really enjoy getting out in it, but the pictures you take from the shoreline will be frame-worthy and the entire getaway will still be a highlight amongst many of your fantastic adventures in the Pocono Mountains!

Dining Options for Your Road Trip

While you could eat every meal at fast food joints along the way, wouldn’t it be nicer to enjoy a substantial meal out of the car? One that tantalizes all the senses and includes happy conversation with the people you love most? Remington’s, located at 203 E Tioga Street in Tunkhannock, offers a homey and delicious dining experience for your journey! Cheetah print carpets and red willow-esque plates show the owners have a great sense of humor, but when you take your first bite of their juicy burgers or Pork Osso Bucco, you’ll understand they are completely serious when it comes to providing an epicurean adventure for their guests! Offering an extensive wine and whiskey list, a meal at Remington’s is the perfect addition to your road trip itinerary.
