Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC)

At a time when environmental issues are front and center in our society, environmental education has acquired new importance not just for the betterment of future generations but for the survival of our planet. This is why PEEC’s mission is to make education a natural process that takes place more out in nature than in classrooms. Combining both the latest cutting-edge technology in education equipment and frequent field trips and outdoor adventures, the Pocono Environmental Education Center aims to advance environmental education and instill a deep-rooted appreciation of nature. This non-profit organization with long experience in education is also a partner of the National Park Service.

Education is Fun at the Pocono Environmental Education Center

Not many students would agree with that, but at the Pocono Environmental Education Center,  education is a hands-on experience where students are immersed in the educational process, making learning both fun and easy. On the sprawling 77-acre area, field trips reinforce the stem curriculum while stressing team building and at the same time creating an environment where the students are unplugged. The goal is to encourage students to develop their innate abilities to build the future leaders of the country. Adventures are also at the heart of the organization’s methodology. Students get to explore beaver lodges and crawl into bat caves. Learning about the environment starts and ends in nature.

Various Programs

As part of PEEC’s service to the community and raising awareness of the importance of the environment, the organization offers different programs for all the family, from family nature getaways for the weekend that cover everything including lodging, activities, and meals to public nature programs offering guided hikes, and amphibian searches among other exciting activities. And if you can’t make it to the organization, their trained staff can travel to you as part of their outreach programs. Call them at 570-828-2319 or visit at 538 Emery Road,

Dingmans Ferry, PA 18328.

Exploring More of the Environment

When you can’t get enough of the beauty of the Pennsylvania landscape, your Dingmans Ferry visit will show you even more, starting with the Dingman Waterfall. Featuring a 130-foot drop from the top, it also offers a gradual decline that gives the falls different looks from different spots along the trails! Pack a picnic, and spend the day exploring all the trails, or hike with purpose straight to the top, but be warned—the stairs can be difficult to navigate for those not in great physical shape. The pictures you take from the top of the falls promise to be frame worthy! The Delaware State Forest, home to the falls, offers even more breathtaking scenery for all nature lovers. Over 100 miles of trails traverse 5000 acres, and a sweet surprise can be found around every bend. In the winter, the sounds of snowmobiles will fill your ears in many spots, but never fear; there’s always places to find some peace and serenity to feed your soul. Bring your pole and tackle box and spend a few hours angling for tonight’s dinner where the catch of the day most commonly caught is trout. Or just amble along the trails with no particular destination in mind, understanding that the journey is as important as the destination!

Time to Eat!

All this hiking, exploring, and oohing and ahhing over the beauty of the natural landscape in Dingmans Ferry is bound to bring about hunger pains that can only be sated by a visit to one of the delicious eateries in the area! Breakfast or lunch at the Forklift Café is a treat much loved by visitors and residents alike. Located at 1764 PA-739 and serving the comfort food we crave in a welcoming atmosphere, you’ll soon see why the Forklift is a local tradition! FYI, if you’re visiting for breakfast and you don’t try their stuffed French toast, you’ll never be able to forgive yourselves! For dinners that you don’t want to end, a visit to Fáilte should be at the top of your culinary bucket list, as this Irish-themed pub and steakhouse offers juicy steaks, classic Irish dishes, and many of your favorite pub grub meals. Also offering darts, live music, and the space to dance the night away, Fáilte, located at 1492 PA-739, will probably be near the top of your Dingmans Ferry experiences!
