Zummo’s Cafe

Welcome to Scranton, Pennsylvania, home of “The Office.” You probably thought this town was pretty boring. Enter Zummo’s Cafe. Located in the Green Ridge section of Scranton, this cafe has a cool history. It’s an homage to the original Zummo’s Grocery and Shoe Making, which was opened on Marion Street in 1892 by husband and wife team Giuseppe and Francesca Zummo. The cafe is owned by Mary Tellie, coffee fanatic and the founder of Electric Coffee Company.

Food review and recipe blog Serious Eats called Zummo’s “Pennsylvania’s, and perhaps America’s, best coffee shop.”

The cafe offers daily specials. Bran muffins, quiches, salads, homemade breakfast biscuit sandwiches and vegan cupcakes are all on the menu here. Zummo’s cafe also offers its space for events and catering. The cafe makes custom order cakes, too. And sometimes, the staff even host trivia nights.

Drip coffee is brewed on the illustrious Clover machine. The machine brews one cup at a time. Specialty brewers love it because it offers the ability to change water temperature and brewing time depending on the type of roast or cup you want. Used almost exclusively in Starbucks stores, you’ll be hard pressed to find one elsewhere, so it feels pretty special to find one at Zummo’s cafe Scranton.

You’ll also be hard pressed to find a bad review of this place. People love the menu’s variety (it’s posted regularly on Facebook) and brews.

Try the nitro cold brew or an over-the-top donut, like the chocolate chip mint donut. Zummo’s cafe Scranton offers several vegan and gluten free options.

It’s close to Scranton University and perfect students who need a place to study. The Wi-Fi is free, the seating is comfy, the vibe is good, and the coffee is even better.
