Events

While Jim Thorpe Birthday Celebration is a focal point of our town’s annual festivities, it’s not the only event we celebrate here. Not by a long shot. We like to welcome spring with Jim Thorpe Irish Fest, a 4-day event that, as the name implies, involves a lot of drinking, food, and celebrations. Then in April, we hold our Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival. By independent we mean rebellious, daring, and feisty films. We encourage films that trigger debate and shatter norms and conventions. We also celebrate Earth Day in April and the following month we have the Jim Thorpe Area Running Festival. Other notable events in our town include Fall Foliage Festival, Historic District Trick-or-Treat Weekend, Olde Time Christmas and many more.

Attractions

For a town like ours with its long history and its share of famous people, you can expect plenty of entertainment, historical places, museums, adventures, and tours to enjoy. For entertainment, you can choose from live music at Broadway Grille and Back To The 80s Bar or you can go highbrow and spend a delightful evening at Mauch Chunk Opera House. For the history buff, there’s plenty to enjoy here. Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, Asa Packer Mansion, and No. 9 Coal & Mine Museum are some of the popular historical tours in our town. As for adventure, there’s a lot to get your heart pumping here, from whitewater rafting to horseback riding, and biking.

Wineries and Tasting

When you’re in Jim Thorpe, don’t forget to include our wineries in your vacation itinerary. Galen Glen Winery has been named PA’s Best Winery and their wine has an international reputation. Radical Wine Company is famous for its urban style winery. They import grapes from all over the world and craft limited batches. If you want to try craft brewery, give them a visit. Other local wineries to consider include Big Creek Vineyard, Antler Ridge Winery, and Stonekeep Meadery.

Dining at the Jim Thorpe Birthday Celebration

The dining experience in our town crosses the borders and brings you a taste of the world cuisine. You can try casual dining at Cafe Arielle at the Stabin Museum where the underground stream and outdoor patio make for an exotic setting. And if you’re looking for a watering hole in an outlandish place, Marion Hose Bar is located in the historic firehouse with a great selection of whiskies and craft beer. And for a fine dining experience, you don’t want to miss Moya.
