Christmas in the Poconos

HomeeventsChristmas in the Poconos

One thing that can be said about Christmas in the Poconos is that it’s almost guaranteed to be a white Christmas at the top of these mountains. But that’s not the only reason people come to the Pocono Mountains during Christmas. Winter up the mountains is a special time of the year. The town always has something special planned for Christmas, from train rides with Santa to caroling, live music, and shopping. There’s plenty to do and enjoy in the Poconos in December.

Old Time Christmas Tours

One of the most cherished Christmas traditions here in the Pocono Mountains is the lantern tour, usually taking place during the first two weeks of December. The guided tour takes you through a 19th-century farm in the Quiet Valley. A live reenactment of the Nativity Scene is performed in a real barn accompanied by carols and live music. The authenticity of the whole scene is really astonishing. The tour also gives you an idea about what life on a farm was like in the 1820s. There’s also a gift shop where you can do some shopping and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa.

Hawley Winterfest

Hawley Winterfest is another tradition that makes Christmas in the Poconos what it is. The three-day event explores the heart of the historic town on a horse-drawn carriage. Bring your whole family on this romantic ride and get a feel of what Christmas means on the mountains. The festival also includes ice carving, arts and crafts, hot cocoa, live entertainment, and seasonal food, but that’s not all. In the spirit of celebrating Christmas, you can take part in the ugly Christmas sweater party. There’s also a beer tour which is just as fun as it sounds.

Historic Honesdale

Since this is Christmas we’re talking about, shopping must be on your mind. Whether you’ve already done your Christmas shopping or not, you can’t miss visiting Historic Honesdale. Holiday shopping has never been more fun. Christmas carols fill up the air, everyone is smiling and joyous, and you can find everything you need in one place. There are shops for just about anything—from art to electronics and gadgets to specialty shops. And while you’re here, make sure to take photos by the Christmas tree and attend the annual Santa Parade!
