The West End Fair

In the Poconos, August is a month filled with fairs and fun activities, allowing visitors to celebrate the lovely summer season in our mountain region. One of the best fairs held in the area is the West End Fair, which is held in the nearby town of Gilbert just a short drive away during late August of every year.

Summer Fun in the Pocono Mountains

The 2018 West End Fair will take place daily from August 19th through August 25th, with gates opening at 12:00pm each day. During the fair, visitors can expect to find midway games, live entertainment, arts and crafts, agricultural and livestock shows, demolition derbies, truck and tractor pulls, rides, fireworks, and a variety of delicious fair food.

When the Fair Closes Its Gates

The only downside to the West End Fair is knowing that its days are numbered. Lasting just about a week, the fun of fair going ends too soon, but that doesn’t mean you should skip out on any visits to Gilbert, Pennsylvania entirely. Rather, spending a random day during your Poconos escape can be another highlight in your Pennsylvania adventures! Gilbert is more than just a small town; it’s a place you’ll fall in love with as you walk along the Pohopoco Creek, listening to the water as it babbles peacefully beside you. Perhaps during your visit you’ll be able to catch a peek of a doe and her fawn sipping delicately from the banks of the creek or maybe this will be the visit when you hear soft song of the tufted titmouse as she flies over the grounds of the West End Fair.

Gilbert is the home of Heaven’s View Goat Dairy, which, if it sounds familiar, could be because you have purchased some of the soaps they create at a local fair or even farmer’s market. Offering a variety of scents, including lemon & lemongrass, and lavender, their soaps are made from goat’s milk. Your skin will not just smell wonderful; it will be softer and more supple after using this product.

On the hottest days of summer, the icy and refreshing taste of an Italian ice or frozen custard can be found simply by walking in the door of Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard located at 1268 US-209 Suite A right here in Gilbert. Enjoy an Italian ice made from fresh fruit, sweet and delicious milkshakes, and a frozen custard cake that is guaranteed to be your newest addiction! Fortunately, you will be doing a lot of walking and hiking during your Pennsylvania getaway, so the extra calories won’t be something you have to worry about! For those of you with dietary issues, they also offer sugar-free ices so good, you won’t be able to tell the difference from their full sugar treats!

Time to Dine?

The fresh air is definitely going to make you hungry, and while you may be tempted to snack on the trail mix you’ve packed for the journey or to order an extra-large Italian ice, we would like to advise you to save some room for a special dining treat—a visit to American Lobster! Located at 1034 Interchange Road, you may be wondering about how legitimate a lobster dinner can be in a landlocked state, but your concerns are unfounded; every bite of every meal will be better than the last! Using local ingredients whenever possible and offering delicious starters that include Lobster Bisque and a Main Lobster Mac & Cheese, we’ve yet to try something we haven’t fallen in love with from first taste! And because picky eaters are notorious for not exactly liking seafood, their turf dishes include tasty favorites such as a Steak House Burger, Beef Short Ribs, and a Cajun Chicken Penne.
