Visitors flock to the Poconos from near and far for a chance to escape the grind of everyday life. Between the rolling hills and mountains as well as the lush forests and lakes, the Poconos offers a peaceful ambiance quite unlike anywhere else. While the summer months are for outdoor rest and relaxation in this mountainous region, winter takes a turn for the wacky and wild! The beginning of March means the WMMR Cardboard Classic arrives, encouraging participants to craft a cardboard sled that beats all others on the slopes. Fun, festival and always with a few epic fails, the WMMR Cardboard Classic is a well-loved winter time event in Pennsylvania.
Hosts and Hopefuls at the Cardboard Classic
Early March brings that special day where the voices of WMMR leave the studio booth and head to the high slopes along with all the creative participants ready to put their cardboard creations to the test. Beginning in the morning, competitors will start their slides down the 7-foot tubing ramp at Jack Frost Mountain. While participants must be 18 to compete, there is no limit to the level of creative genius applied to making a mobile masterpiece. Using nothing more than cardboard, tape, string and glue, participants will craft a sled to best the others. Decorations are highly encouraged at the Cardboard Classic Poconos with cash prizes available to standout creations.
Competition Specifics
Participants join up to ride the Cardboard Classic Poconos for the fun and also the potential to win some great prizes! Riders are judged in group and individual speed categories with prizes ranging anywhere from $250 to $2,000 in cash. Signing up to participate also provides opportunities for great deals on lift tickets. Advanced signup’s may find their lift ticket is only $10. In the end, competitors and spectators find this event to be a day full of thrills, spills and a lot of laughter. While some of the most beautifully designed sleds are destined to never get far on the tubing ramp, there’s always a surprising stand-out, making it an exciting event that’s live-broadcast for added entertainment. The event is a full day of fun for the entire family. This annual event can be counted on to happen rain or shine with the team from WMMR ready to host no matter the weather.
The 2020 Cardboard Classic will be held on Friday, March 6th from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Sled registration begins Wednesday, January 22nd, while the MMR VIP lift ticket presale begins Saturday, February 1st.
